MEXT announces the selection of the FY2016 “Inter-University Exchange Project (Re-Inventing Japan Project); Support for the formation of Collaborative Programs with Universities in Asia” (Type A-1, Type B).
1.Summary of the Project
The “Inter-University Exchange Project (Re-Inventing Japan Project)” is a funding project that aims to foster human resources capable of being globally active and strengthen the internationalization of university education in Japan. While assuring quality higher education, the project aims to further strengthen overseas networks, and promote international education collaborations including study abroad programs for Japanese students and acceptance of foreign students. MEXT will further expand support in FY2016 to advance collaborative programs with universities in Asia.
2.Summary of the Selection
A notification of an open call was sent to all national, public and private university presidents on May 9, 2016, with the deadline for the closing of the open call on May 30. After receiving 82 applications (Type A: Promoting Campus Asia (CA)): 30 applications (Type A-1: 8 applications, Type A-2: 22 applications), Type B (Promoting exchanges with ASEAN universities): 52 applications), the Selection Committee for Strengthening Internationalization of Universities Project (Chair: Shinichi Hirano, Chair Professor and Director of Hirano Institute for Materials Innovation at Shanghai Jiao Tong University) screened the applications and 8 projects from both Type A-1 and Type B were selected.
