Promotion of University Student Exchange and International Exchange

For the purpose of enabling young Japanese to win in international competition and become world leaders in academic research as well as in cultural and international contribution, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has endeavored to motivate young people to study abroad by carrying out the "Tobitate! (Leap for Tomorrow) Study Abroad" campaign, aiming to expand opportunities for studying abroad in higher education and foster truly global human resources. At the same time, MEXT has been expanding the "Tobitate! (Leap for Tomorrow) Young Ambassador Program" with the cooperation of private companies, etc. and has been offering support for studying abroad at national expense, thereby attempting to mitigate the financial burden of students. Additionally, in order to attract excellent international students who will contribute to further growth of Japan, MEXT has been supporting the improvement of the environment for the acceptance of international students through such means as preparing opportunities for exchange between Japanese and international students: including securing of a better dwelling environment, and creating overseas bases and a platform for assisting employment in Japan, while endeavoring to further increase the appeal of studying in Japan.
