On June 22 ,2021, MEXT Minister HAGIUDA Koichi participated in the G20 Education Ministers’ Meeting chaired by Italy met in a hybrid format of in-person and online attendance to discuss international collaboration in the field of education.
The G20 members discussed and shared their respective knowledge at the meeting on following items:

(1) Blended Education making best use of the benefits offered by both in-person education and distance education while utilizing digital technology
 (2) Educational Poverty

 Minister Hagiuda began his remarks by emphasizing the importance of ESD* and called for international collaboration in this area.   
 Minister also introduced Japan’s efforts related to the use of digital technology in schools, such as a new form of learning through each child being provided with an electronic device, while reiterating the importance of in-person education and how the vital role of schools cannot be replaced by distance learning and referred to the issuance of vaccination certificates by the Minister for Japanese students who want to study abroad so as to be able to gradually resume student exchanges, and shared Japan’s knowledge with the other countries.

 Moreover, minister explained the thorough measures being taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and preparations being made to ensure the hosting of a safe and secure Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
