PART Issues and Developments of Policies in Education, Science and Culture
Chapter 5. Promotion of Scientific Research
4. Organizations in Scientific Research
The organizations involved in scientific research in Japan consist
of university faculties and graduate schools, inter-university research institutes,
research institutes attached to universities, research facilities attached to
university faculties, research institutes under the direct supervision of the
Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, and research institutes founded by
scientific research juridical persons, etc. In view of the increasing needs for
joint research in many areas which have emerged with the advancement or research
methodologies, the promotion of research system has been made with particular
emphasis on this point.
Academic associations, which are bodies voluntarily organized
by individual researchers across the institutional boundaries, fulfill an important
role, for example, in research evaluation, information exchange and personal
contacts.
