Health education in schools is practiced mainly through school health programs, school safety programs and school lunch programs, and also in such subjects as "health and physical education","homemaking" and "science" and through moral education and special activities. From the viewpoint of comprehensive health education, it is becoming more important to promote cooperation among these related areas and to keep closer contact with families and communities which are the basis of pupils' life.

Within the school health program, school safety program and school lunch program that form the core of school health education, efforts to adopt various measures have been taken for the comprehensive promotion of health education. The school health program places emphasis on the health of mind, problems concerning smoking, drinking and drug abuse, as well as the prevention of AIDS. The school safety program is concerned primarily with traffic safety education. The school lunch program tries to promote desirable eating habits and the improvement of environment for having meals in cooperation with families and communities.
