Chapter 2. Towards the Enrichment and Spread of Culture
6 The Global Spread of Japanese Language Education
3. The Future of Japanese Language Education
(3) Training of Japanese language teachers, and improvement of contents and teaching methods of Japanese language education

In order to answer to the diverse motives of those who learn the Japanese language, improvement of universities and institutions that train Japanese language teachers and a review of the content taught at these institutions needs to take place. It is also necessary to develop standard syllabuses, teaching methods and materials appropriate to the need and levels of the learners. The means by which persons interested in Japanese language education both inside and outside of Japan have access to this information is another point for consideration. In addition, the National Language Research Institute's Centre for Teaching of Japanese as a Foreign Language is in need of enrichment in order to promote comprehensive policies for Japanese language education.
