Part 1 Promotion of Scientific Research
Chapter 2. Improvement and Expansion of the Basis of Scientific Research
4 Strengthening of Systems for Distribution of Science Information
2 Issues Concerning Systems for Distribution of Science Information

With regard to science information networks, the further enrichment of both the trunk lines connecting key universities with one another and the branch lines connecting secondary universities to key universities is necessary. As for campus information networks, promotional measures should be taken with due consideration of their compatibility with other wide-area networks like the science information networks.

To improve the accessibility of Japan's outstanding scientific achievements to the international community, the Ministry has to make further efforts, not only to strengthen the national scientific data base specific to Japan, but also to improve the functions of the science information network so that it may be linked with those

overseas.
