(2) Updating the Copyright System

The copyright system aims at confirming and protecting the right of the author of printed materials, performances, records, broadcast and other recordings, and by so doing, assures any citizen to properly enjoy these cultural products of mankind. It is thus one of the foundations of cultural development of our nation.

Regarding the upgrading of the copyright system, the Copyright Law was partially amended due to the entry of our country into the International Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations. The amendment is concerned with the inclusion of performing arts and other items in the law the protection of which is required by the Convention. The Copyright Council is now deliberating on copyright problems accompanied by the new means of reproduction and by the development and popularization of communication technology.
