(1) Lifelong Learning and the Role of Schools


Schools have two important roles to play in the system of lifelong learning. One is to lay the foundation for people who keep learning throughout life ; especially placing more emphasis on basic knowlege and skills at elementary and secondary education level and the encouragement of developing individual traits are the basic principles for the course of Study revised in 1989. The other is to offer various learning opportunities in lifelong learning ; various activities have been initiated including the effort to accept working adults into schools.
