PART 2 Issues and Developments of Policies in Education, Science and Culture
Chapter 2. Promoting Lifelong Learning
2. Developing Infrastructures for Lifelong Learning
(3) Promotion of Cooperation among Lifelong Learning Facilities

In the development of facilities for lifelong learning in the years to come, it is essential to promote cooperation systems among facilities for lifelong learning, to actively provide all kinds of information, and to develop and utilize social education facilities and school facilities for the convenience of local residents. The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture provides subsidies to those local governments involved in these endeavors, and also encourages the setting up of "lifelong learning centers". In FY 1989, a new subsidy scheme was introduced to encourage the formation of networks among lifelong learning facilities.
