The proportion of government-disbursed educational expendittures to the national income of selected countries is shown in Chart 5-4.

The chart shows that the highest proportion is shown in the U.S.S.R. In Japan, it has been in an upward trend since fiscal 1970.

Next, as to the average rate of annual increase in government-disbursed eaucational expenditujes during the.first half of the 1960s and thereafter, nearly the same rate of.increase is shown in Japan during both the first half of the l960s and thereafter, whereas the rate of increase was higher in the first half of the 1960s in Franc?e and,the U.S.S.R., and in the second half of the 1960s and thereafter in other countries.
