CHAPTER 5 EDUCATIONAL EXPENDITURES
1 Scale of Educational Expenditures
(l) Scale of Government-Disbursed Educational Expenditures

The size of government-disbursed educational expenditures (Note), expanding year by year since fiscal 1960, totalled more than \5 trillion in fiscal 1973, or about 8.3 times the total for fiscal 1960 (\612.5 billion).

The national income and total administrative expenditures are also growing year by year. Accordingly, the scale of government-disbursed educational expenditures may be said to have grown in proportion to the expansion of the national economy and administrative expendituers.

The proportion of government-disbursed educational expenditures to the national income has been kept at around 5% since fiscal 1960. That proportion to total administrative expenditures, slipping little by little, has come to about 20% in recent fiscal years.

At both the national and local level, the scale of government-disbursed educational expenditures has been increasing in proportion to the expansion of administrative expenditures. The proportion of educational experrdittres"tca tc>tal administrative expenditures is kept at 1O~I3% at the national government level and at 25~27% at the local government level, with little change discerned.
