To improve the system to study desirable curriculums, the Curriculum Research Center was newly established at the National Institute for Educational Policy Research in January 2001. The Center is working on various studies and researches on curriculums by (1) conducting a nationwide and comprehensive academic ability survey (Research on Curriculum) to clarify children's level of achievement, check and evaluate whether or not the goals and contents stipulated in the Course of Study are appropriate, (2) launching a project of designated research schools working on practical study and research about curriculums and teaching methods, and (3) making a comparative analysis of curriculums in other countries. (See Part 1, Chapter 2, Section 2-2 for the results of the Research on Curriculum conducted in FY 2001).
