永岡大臣がネルソンNASA長官と会談し、ゲートウェイのための日米間の協力に関する実施取決めに署名

  18日、永岡文部科学大臣とネルソンNASA長官が会談し、月周回有人拠点「ゲートウェイ」のための日米間の協力に関する実施取決めに署名しました。
  これは、2020年12月に日本国政府とNASAとの間で締結したゲートウェイ了解覚書における協力内容を具体化するものであり、我が国がゲートウェイ居住棟への機器提供や物資補給を行い、NASAが日本人宇宙飛行士のゲートウェイへの搭乗機会を１回提供することが規定されました。

  あわせて、アルテミス計画で必要となる技術の獲得・実証の場として不可欠な国際宇宙ステーション（ISS）の2030年までの運用延長への参加を日本政府として表明いたしました。

  会談には、エマニュエル駐日米国大使、木原官房副長官、大西宇宙飛行士に同席いただき、岸田総理とハリス副大統領からのメッセージを伝えていただきました。

  宇宙には夢や希望を湧き起こす魅力があります。本日の会談を経て、将来の有人活動を担う若者に対して挑戦の機会を示すことができたと思います。
  引き続き、2020年代後半に米国人以外で初となる日本人宇宙飛行士の月面着陸の実現に向け、ISS計画やアルテミス計画をはじめとする国際協力にしっかりと取り組んでまいります。

【Minister Nagaoka held a meeting with NASA Administrator Nelson】

MEXT Minister Nagaoka Keiko met with NASA Administrator Bill Nelson on November 18.
They have signed an implementing arrangement for the moon-orbiting space station, “Gateway”.
The detailed arrangement is based on the Gateway Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Japanese government and NASA in December 2020. The terms include Japan to provide equipment and supplies to the Gateway Habitation module, along with NASA to provide one crew opportunity to the Gateway to Japan.
Minister Nagaoka also announced Japan will participate in extending operation of the ISS until 2030 to demonstrate and acquire technology necessary for the Artemis Program.
US Ambassador Emanuel, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara, and Astronaut Onishi attended the meeting. Messages from Prime Minister Kishida and U.S. Vice President Harris were also shared.
Minister Nagaoka said, space has the wonder to stir dreams and hope, and signing this arrangement has shown young future astronauts to take on challenges.
Minister Nagaoka said MEXT would continue to advance international cooperation through the ISS and Artemis program and hope to realize the Japanese astronaut on the moon as the first non-American astronaut on the moon by the latter half of the 2020s.
