4. Expansion of Opportunities for Art Appreciation



(1) Traveling Art Festival

The Agency for Cultural Affairs sponsors the Traveling Art Festival, which dispatches outstanding stage arts all over Japan. 64 performances were organized in FY1999, and 56 performances are scheduled for FY2000.


(2) Traveling Exhibitions of National Museums

The Agency for Cultural Affairs has been organizing Traveling Exhibitions of Outstanding Works in the Collections of National Museums, which effectively utilizes artworks in national collections for traveling exhibitions, lectures and symposia. Exhibitions were held at 4 institutions in FY1999, and are planned at 4 institutions in FY2000.


(3) Programs to Commemorate "International Music Day"

In order to popularize the mission of "International Music Day" (October 1), which was established by the Law Regarding the Development of a Learning Environment to Promote Musical Culture, the Program to Commemorate the International Music Day, which includes music-related programs such as concerts and recitals with citizens' participation, has been organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The program was implemented in 37 regions in FY1999 and is scheduled for 42 regions in FY2000.
