Section 2 Educational Reform Q&A
Q14
National University Teachers, etc., Also Serve as Officials in Private Enterprises

Up to now, national university teachers had not been approved to serve as officials of enterprises. However, it is now possible for them to do so, with the approval of the National Personnel Authority, in the following cases. As of August 2000, 28 national university teachers had received approval from the National Personnel Authority.

(1) Director, president, etc., of an enterprise that conducts business using the teacher's research results; (2) Auditor of a corporation or limited liability company; (3) Director, president, etc., of a Technology Licensing Organization (TLO). *

Furthermore, in the case of (1) above, it is possible for the teacher to take leave from the national university and engage in the job of official of the enterprise full-time.
