Section 2 Educational Reform Q&A
Q14
More Flexible Receipt of Expenses for Commissioned Research, etc., by National and Public Universities

National and public universities that used to have to conclude a contract each year to carry out commissioned research for enterprises or others or to conduct joint research with enterprises or others are now able to conclude multiyear agreements.

In addition, it is no longer necessary for universities to divide research funds received from enterprises by use, such as travel expenses and facilities and equipment expenses. This revision has made it easier to use research funds, for example, by enabling more flexible alteration of research plans.
