A digital twin is a virtual representation of the real-world which provides various added value through its interconnection with physical space. Digital twins are gaining importance not only as a conventional design and operational optimization tool, but by providing a foundation that enables high-precision simulation and virtual experimentation under recent trends like Physical AI and AI for Science. They are evolving into a technology that influences competitiveness across a wide range of fields, from fundamental research to industrial technology. However, the high fidelity required for decision-making support through interactions between the virtual and physical worlds has yet to be fully realized. This fundamental and common challenge lies in the vast range of spatial and temporal scales that virtual representations must handle, along with their inherent complexity. Therefore, this strategic goal promotes innovative research for the development and societal implementation of next-generation digital twins through the spatiotemporal augmentation of virtual representations.
