While Japan is advancing multifaceted, discontinuous technological innovation in key quantum technology areas to realize a quantum future society, a significant gap remains between the envisioned future and the currently achievable technological level. This strategic goal focuses on pioneering quantum unexplored territories—key areas which contribute to the creation of new quantum technologies and societal visions, and address critical areas where solutions are taking shape. The strategic goal also broadly incorporates fundamental quantum science—academic themes where deepening theoretical understanding is essential and challenging yet, the potential for exploration is realistic. We aim to accelerate quantum transformation by interconnecting these two domains.
In detail, we aim to create innovative technologies for quantum communication and control, pioneer quantum metrology and imaging technologies that surpass classical limits and advance a quantum understanding of life phenomena through quantum life sciences.
