Spatial and temporal fluctuations in materials are one of the important factors that determine a material’s function and properties. Amid rapid advancements in measurement technologies and computational science surrounding materials science, it is becoming possible to capture fluctuations which have been difficult up until now. This Strategic Objective aims to create novel materials by controlling and utilizing fluctuations through merging the fields of measurement and computation, processing technology, and data-driven research. By developing a theory of fluctuations for materials that transcends the conventional understanding of fluctuations and enhancing the guidelines for materials design that use fluctuations, we aim to create innovative materials that contribute to solving diverse social issues.
