Towards discontinuous technological innovation through quantum materials research

Overview

With today’s dramatic advancements in AI and other technologies, society faces the issues of large-scale data processing and a rapid increase in energy consumption. Research and development in quantum technology is intensifying worldwide to sustain such climate which requires discontinuous technological innovation. While quantum technologies such as quantum computing, quantum metrology and sensing, and quantum communications are anticipated to have diverse applications, research on quantum materials is a fundamental technology that supports these aforementioned technologies, and there is particular need to develop technology to express and control novel quantum mechanical functions. In recent years, new quantum materials and concepts have emerged which have the potential to revolutionize a wide range of fields. As such, we aim to promote research and development that contributes to solving various social issues through basic research on quantum materials, focusing on their physical properties and applications.
