Chapter 10. Internationalization of Education, Culture, and Sports
Section 5. Global Expansion of Japanese Language Education
3. The Future of Japanese Language Education

It is becoming increasingly important to distribute information about Japan, both because of Japan's position in the world and from the viewpoint of developing friendly relations with all nations and ethnic groups. In particular, it is necessary to foster knowledge of the Japanese language, which is the foundation of Japanese thought. The infrastructure of Japanese language education has been developed in step with the increase in the number of people learning Japanese. Continued efforts must be devoted to the promotion of Japanese language education in line with the July 1993 report of the Consultative Committee for Research and Surveys Regarding Japanese Language Education Promotion Policies and the June 1994 report of an advisory group on international exchange.
