PART I New Directions in School Education
Chapter 1. Education that Values the Individual
Section 3. Education Based on Respect for the Individual

As discussed in the preceding sections, solution of the problems confronting school education and creation of a school education system that is appropriate to an era of lifelong learning is possible only if individual citizens recognize the importance of finding answers to these issues and work toward solutions and improvements in their own capacities. It is especially important that those involved in education actively apply their ingenuity to the development of improved approaches based on the fundamental principle of respect for the individual.
