PART 2 Recent Trends and Developments in Government Policies in Education, Science and Culture
Chapter 8 Promotion of Culture
1 Outline of Policies

In response to a rising interest in culture among the public and in order for Japan to develop into a cultural nation rich in character, it has become even more important to endeavor towards the development and creation of high quality arts and culture, to actively distribute the fruits of these cultural efforts abroad and to make international contributions through culture while carrying on the nation's time-honored traditional culture.

With consideration to an urgent proposal from the Advisory Committee for Promoting Cultural Policy, in July of 1991, the Agency for Cultural Affairs particularly endeavors to promote culture for fiscal 1992 putting priority on: promoting the arts and culture, training and securing persons to promote culture, expanding projects and other measures for preserving and repairing cultural properties, promotion of a fulfilling life with cultural properties, and increasing the international exchange of culture.
