(3) Lifelong Learning and the 5-Day School Week
In September 1992 the Ministry hosted a campaign (the September
12th Campaign) to smoothly carry out the transition to a 5 day school week. In
addition to disseminating information among the public about the objectives of
the 5 day school week, the Ministry has appealed to various sectors for cooperation
in enriching and upgrading students' activities outside of school. With cooperation
from several of the ministries and a large number of associations and institutions,
the September 12th campaign provided various types of activities and experiences
for children.
Hereafter, the implementation of the 5 day school week is expected
to have an effect on the development of children's creativity and originality,
and with the increase in chances to participate in various learning activities
outside of school, the 5 day school week should also serve as a great step towards
the realization of a lifelong learning society for both children and adults.
