PART Recent Trends and Developments in Government Policies in Education, Science and Culture

In order to encourage creative artistic activities, the Agency for Cultural Affairs within the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture subsidizes performances by orchestras, operas, ballets and other programs. The Agency also organizes, in conjunction with private sponsors, performances overseas by Japanese artists and large-scale performances within the country. Further the Agency organizes National Art Festivals and carries out various other programs, such as awarding the achievements of artists and providing training for promising artists. In recent years there has been an increasing tendency within the private sector to support artistic and cultural activities.
