PART 2 Recent Trends and Developments in Government Policies in Education, Science and Culture
Chapter 2. Promotion of Lifelong Learning
2 Development of Infrastructures for Lifelong Learning
(5) Cooperation among Lifelong Learning Facilities

In the development of lifelong learning facilities in the future, due consideration should be given to the development of liaison and cooperative systems among such facilities, the exchange of relevant information among such facilities and the improvement of formal educational facilities for use by community members. Therefore, the Ministry not only provides financial subsidies to local governments for their programs and services in these areas, but also implements a program for the construction of lifelong learning centers which are to serve as core community facilities for promoting lifelong learning activities. Further, the Ministry provides subsidies to municipalities for their programs for developing lifelong learning networks in which facilities for formal and non-formal education and other facilities will cooperate with each other in developing and expanding the learning opportunities for community members.
