3 Promotion of Important Basic Research


In accordance with the improvement of Japan's international position in the level of its scientific research, Japan is strongly being urged to further promote original and pioneering scientific research, and positively contribute to the advancement of scientific research in the world.

To meet this request, the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture is striving to promote comprehensive and systematic scientific research from medium- and long-term viewpoints, especially in the fields of special importance. These priority fields include those where systematic and international implementation is necessary, those where social demands are extremely strong, and those where large-scale research facilities and a large amount of funds are necessary.

In Section 2 above, whole research areas were briefly dealt with mainly from the viewpoint of research trends, but in this section, the aforementioned priority fields will be outlined focusing mainly on the promotive measures taken by the Ministry.
