Chapter 10. Education in an Information Oriented Society
1. Overview


All the sectors of society are moving toward an information oriented society, and the education sector is no exception in the need to adapt to the changes. The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture has been promoting measures with emphasis on 1) the cultivation of information literacy, or the ability of making use of information efficiently, through school education and social education, 2) the use of new information media in education,3) the training of those who will be leaders of an information oriented society, and 4) the making of educational facilities more information-oriented and the development of information networks.
