4 Teacher Job Performance
(1) Teaching Hours
a. Elementary and Secondary Schools


The actual state of normal teaching hours per week for local elementary, lower secondary and upper secondary school teachers and private upper secondary school teachers is shown inChart 3-16. Indicated in this chart are the degree of disparity between the average teaching hours per week in respective types of schools.

According to the chart, degree of disparity in the teachers' weekly teaching hours in 1974 was larger in local elementary schools than in any other type of schools. And.teachers' average number of weekly teaching hours were the greatest at 21.8 hours in local elementary schools and the.smallest at 14.9 hours in local upper secondary schools.

As compared with the 1965 level, the clegree of disparity was smaller in 1974 in all types of schools except in local elementary and upper secondary schools, and the average number of teaching hoturs were smaller in 1974 in every type of school.
