MEXT has conducted a survey on the current situation of English education implementation at public junior high (including combined junior high and high schools) and senior high schools (including combined junior high and high schools).

1.  Objectives of the survey

In June 2011, the Commission on the Development of Foreign Language Proficiency  summed up Five Proposals and Specific Measures for Developing Proficiency in English for International Communication. This survey was carried out to determine the necessary factors upon promoting this proposal.

2.  Subject of survey

All education boards in every prefecture and major city and all pubic junior high (including combined junior high and high schools) and public senior high schools (including combined junior high and high schools). In consideration of the effects from the Great East Japan Earthquake, the prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima along with Sendai city have been excluded from this survey.

August 8, 2011 – October 3, 2011
