1.Why MEXT collects individual information

MEXT collects information when individuals use MEXT’s website services within a necessary scope in order to facilitate its site management. MEXT website services include the MEXT homepage, information distributed via MEXT mail magazine and individual comments received by email. The user information gathered will be appropriately handled within MEXT’s intended use.

2.Scope of gathered information

(1)MEXT automatically collects information on the user’s internet domain name and the Internet Protocol(IP) address. Information on the web content viewed is also collected through MEXT cookies.
(2)Users must register their email address when using MEXT’s mail magazine. The user’s gender, age, school/occupation, and place of residence may be voluntarily registered.
(3)Individuals must give their name and email address when submitting any questions and or comments in relation to MEXT through the receptionist.
(4)There may be cases when personal information including the individual’s name, address, school/occupation and telephone number are requested for public comments and or feedback on specific issues posted through MEXT’s website. The sender’s email address is displayed on the recipient’s email.

3.Purpose of use

(1)Information gathered under 2.1 will be used as reference to facilitate MEXT’s site management.
(2)Email addresses and relevant information gathered under 2.2 will be used for distributing of our mail magazine. This information may also be used when carrying out voluntary internet surveys. Voluntarily registered personal information will be used as reference when creating MEXT’s mail magazine.
(3)Comments gathered under 2.3 will be used as reference for planning and creating MEXT future policy. Based on the contents of the questions and comments received, MEXT will forward these to the corresponding divisions, or other government organs if the questions do not fall under MEXT administration. User names and email addresses will be used for answers and confirmation of questions received.
(4)Comments collected under 2.4 will be used as reference upon planning MEXT future policy. In some cases, the user’s name, address, telephone number and email address may be used when responding to comments received.

4.Limitations on usage and distribution

Upon request of information disclosure based on law, for cases excluding violations of illegal access, threats, and or other special instances, the collected information will not be used by MEXT for purposes other than those stipulated in 3, nor will be presented to a third party, provided that statistically processed access information on our website, and user specific information may be made public.

5.Security measures

MEXT will carry out the necessary measures to appropriately manage the information gathered to prevent any leakage, damage and or destruction. Although MEXT has consigned the distribution of MEXT mail magazine to an external party, it has taken the necessary measures so that the consignee appropriately manages this information.

6.This Privacy Policy only applies to MEXT Website

MEXT’s privacy policy is only applied to the MEXT website. Relevant government organs and ministries are respectively responsible for handling this information.

7.Others

MEXT will revise its homepage privacy policy when deemed necessary.
