Education, Culture, Science and Technology and Sport

The Mongolian Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sport Yondonperenlei Baatarbileg paid a courtesy visit to MEXT Minister Shibayama Masahiko on August 5th. The heads exchanged views on extending collaboration in the areas including technical colleges, teacher training and fostering human resources in cultural properties preservation.

Mongolia launched at three of its local universities, a course modelled after curricula implemented at technical colleges in Japan. The program’s inaugural class just graduated this June.

Minister Shibayama said MEXT will continue to collaborate with Mongolia by supporting technical colleges to develop curricula and train teachers towards fostering young people who will actively work as a bridge between Mongolia and Japan.

Minister Baatarbileg of Mongolia said while the course is still new, it has received high acclaim, and hopes to further expand the number of programs offered.

Moreover, Minister Shibayama expressed high hopes towards advancing collaborations in a wide range of areas including: promoting cultural exchanges towards 2022 marking the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations established between the two nations; fostering human resources in cultural properties preservation; the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics; and teacher training.

Minister Shibayama agreed on working to enhance bilateral exchanges by further promoting exchanges in a wide range of areas.
