MEXT Minister Shibayama Masahiko attended a ceremony held on July 24th to mark one year until the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.

After the ceremony, the minister said with just one year until the opening of the Games, the public interest towards the Olympics has grown remarkably. The minister said the International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach mentioned that Tokyo is very ahead in its preparation for the Olympics compared to past host cities. The minister said while many issues remain, he asserted MEXT will further advance preparations towards firmly making the Games a success.
