資料5－3　PI（Principal Investigator）の定義について

○　総合科学技術会議　基本政策専門調査会「基礎研究強化に向けて講ずべき長期的方策について― 基礎研究を支えるシステムの改革 ー」（平成22年1月27日）
　PI の定義については、引き続き議論し明確にする必要があるが、例えば、1）独立した研究課題と研究スペースを持つこと、2）研究グループを組織して研究を行っている場合は、そのグループの責任者であること、3）大学院生の指導に責任を持つこと、4）論文発表の責任者であること、などが考えられる。

○　科学技術・学術政策研究所　調査資料 - 195「我が国の大学・公的研究機関における研究者の独立の過程に関する分析－研究職歴と研究権限についての大規模調査－」（2011年3月）
　本報告書においては暫定的に調査項目とした［a］～［e］の5項目全てに［該当する］と回答した場合、当該職歴をPI に相当する職歴と見なして集計を行った。

［b］　研究グループの予算作成・執行の実質的な責任者
［c］　担当課題の予算作成・執行の実質的な責任者
［d］　特定の部下（大学院生）の指導の責任者
［e］　発表論文の責任者

○　NSF Grant Policy Manual
　PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR/PROJECT DIRECTOR （PI／PD） is the individual designated by the grantee, and approved by NSF, who will be responsible for the scientific or technical direction of the project. The term "Principal Investigator" generally is used in research projects, while the term "Project Director" generally is used in science and engineering education and other projects.

○　NIAID （NIH） 'Glossary of Funding and Policy Terms and Acronyms'
　Qualified person from an applicant institution who directs a research project or program supported by NIH and usually writes a grant application.

○　Association of Clinical Research Professionals（ACRAP）’s certification
　A PI holds a doctoral-level degree （PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, MD, DDS or equivalent degree） and serves as the principal, sub- or co- investigator; or monitors, supervises, or designs clinical trials; and accepts responsibility for the safe and ethical conduct of a clinical trial.
