  R&D expenditures in real terms for selected countries are calculated in order to compare growth rate.The trend for recent years shows the United States,Germany 6) and Japan registering high growth.The high growth in the United States is seemingly due to increased research and development investment by private corporations with the economic boom,while that for Japan reflects expansion in private-sector companies'research and development investment,and growth has been registered for seven straight years beginning in FY1995 (Figure2-1-2) .
