What has been done so far?


Computers for Education

Computers at schools have been promoted mainly through the development of computer classrooms and the installation of computers in these classrooms. Specifically, over a six-year program period from FY1994-1999, we have advanced installation to facilitate classes with one computer for every two elementary school students and one computer per each lower and upper secondary school students.

The following chart indicates the state of achievement of this program in its final year (at the end of FY1999).


Internet access

We have prepared and are advancing an annual program aimed at achieving Internet access for all schools by FY2001.

Teacher training

We are systematically implementing training aimed at improvement of teachers' information literacy 3 .
