Section 2 Educational Reform Q&A
Q4
Airing of Programs by the Children's Broadcasting Station

What is the Children's Broadcasting Station?

The Children's Broadcasting Station (CBS) provides programming that fosters the hopes and dreams of children. The station uses a communications satellite to broadcast these programs on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month-the two Saturdays that are holidays from school. CBS was created with the aim of contributing to the enhancement of opportunities for children's activities in communities.

What kinds of programs are aired?

CBS programs include direct conversations with tops sports athletes and scientists, and activities performed by transmitting and receiving stations together, such as handicraft classes and cooking classes. They are designed to be participatory rather than merely to be watched.

Where can I see CBS programs?

CBS programs can be viewed at about 1,400 locations nationwide, including citizens' public halls, libraries, museums, lifelong learning centers, youth education facilities and schools implementing open classroom projects.
