At the G8 Education Ministers' Meeting, participants discussed the current state of educational issues common to all countries (such as how to expand international exchange of students and teachers, how to utilize the Internet and other ICT for education and how to realize a society where people can continue learning throughout their entire lives) and exchanged information on the measures that have worked in each country.

After the meeting, the Chair of the meeting, NAKASONE Hirofumi, Japan's Minister of Education, Science, Sports and Culture at that time, submitted a paper on the results of the discussions, titled "Chair's Summary," to the Prime Minister. (See https://www.mext.go.jp/english/topics/g8/00101x.htm)

Mr. YAMAZAKI Masakazu, President of Toa University, was chairperson at the G8 Education Ministers' Forum, which was attended by G8 Ministers; former Minister of Education, Science, Sports and Culture MORIYAMA Mayumi; President of the University of the Ryukyus MORITA Moshin; and about 100 residents of Okinawa. At the Forum, there was a free exchange of views on how to improve education, especially education aimed at international understanding among different cultures in the world, where it is becoming more and more important for people to help each other and coexist in harmony.
