(2) Financial Aid to Private Upper Secondary Schools

With a view to maintain and improve the level of standards for financial aid (to private upper secondary schools and other institutions), every year the Ministry provides prefectural governments with national subsidies for grants to private upper secondary schools and other institutions for their current expenditures, in addition to the budget allocation from the Local Allocation Tax. In fiscal 1992, subsidies from the Ministry amounted to 82,300 million yen, representing an increase of 2,400 million yen over the previous year. The Ministry also offers subsidies for the purchase of educational computers.
