6 Promotion of Basic Research in Key Areas
In order to further develop creative and pioneer scientific
research and thus contribute to the progress of scientific research in the world,
the Ministry has been promoting, overall and progressively, research activities
in such key areas of special needs as astronomy, accelerator science, space science,
fusion research, life science, and global environmental science, in medium- and
long-term perspectives. In promoting research activities in these areas, focus
has been placed on research projects carried out in or through national interuniversity
research institutes. Apriority in the allocation of grants-in-aid for scientific
research has been given to these key areas.
