Chapter 8. Promotion of Culture
1. Overview


With the improvement in living standards and the increase or tree time among Japanese people, the pursuit of culture by Japanese people is increasingly oriented toward variety, individuality and sophistication. People also endeavor to make culture a more integral part of their lives and life styles.

The fundamental role of cultural administration is to promote spontaneous cultural activities of the people and to cultivate the conditions whereby all citizens can benefit from and enjoy culture. Keeping this in mind, the Agency for Cultural Affairs has been making efforts for the promotion of culture with particular emphasis on creative activity in the arts. the completion of a Second National Theater, the preservation and active use of cultural properties and international cultural exchange.
