4. Physical Education and Sports in University


Physical education and sports in universities and junior colleges consist of three categories : required subjects, extracurricular activities and specialized education.

Concerning extracurricrlar activities, the activities of sports circles are given an important role in the promotin of sports for all and at the same time are expected to contribute to the activation of athletic sports.

In the field of specialized education in physical education and sports, further promotion of applied research related directly to the upgrading of competitiveness is demanded in addition to the pursuit of basic research. In this connection, the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture allocated a budget in 1989 for a survey concerning the methodologies of guidance in practical training of physical education and snorts, in order to improve education and research on physical education and sports in universities.

University extension courses on sports and the opening of its physical education facilities to the public will contribute to the promotion of sports for all, and further promotion and enrichment of these practices are expected.
