(2) Employment of New School Graduates
a. Trends in Employment Rate


The proportion of new school graduates entering employment (employment rate) is shown in Table 6-2.

Employment rates for new lower secondary school graduates and new upper secondary school general course graduates are showing a sharp decline in reflection of the growth in the proportion of those graduates going on to higher-level schools. On the other hand, the employmenet rate for new graduates of specialized couses of upper secondary schools is remarkably higher than that for new graduates of general courses.

As regards junior college graduates, the employment rate for new male graduates remains almost the same at around 80%, while that for new female graduates rose from 50% in 1960 to 73% in 1975.

As regards univetsity graduates, the employment rate for new male graduates declined slightly from 86% in 1969 to 78% in 1975, while that for new fema1e graduates remains at around the 60% level. Classified by field of specialization, the empployment rate for new female graduates specializing in humanities and socia1 science is found to be relatively low, failing to reach 6O%, whjch deserves attention. The employment rate for new graduates specializing in other subjects remains at 70% to 80% in general, but a downward trend is observed when seen on a year-to-year basis.
