Chart 5-5 shows how public and private educational expenditures

are distributed to each educational field.
School education expenditures, growing year by year to more than \5,600 billion in fiscal 1973, account for a little over 90% of public and private educational expenditures in each fiscal year. Social education expenditures grew markedly from \15 billion in fiscal 1960 to \270 billion in fiscal 1973, with the proportion in public and private educational expenditures also rising year by year.
(Note) Public and private educational expenditures are the net total expettditures disbursed by govemments, school juridical persons, etc. as school education expenditures, social educatiott expenditures (only those disbursed by local governments; including the expenditures for protection of cultural assets) and educational administration expenditures.
