   Reference Higher Education Reform Q&A?
   Question1-1

From April 2004, national universities will become incorporated. What advantages will this have for students?

Answer

When each university exploits the merits of incorporation and carries out creative and innovative management, numerous advantages can arise. Through incorporation, it is hoped that university management considers the viewpoint of the recipients of education (i.e., students) and carries out its activities perhaps in the following ways:

1) The level of freedom in terms of organization and budget will expand, making it possible for each university to choose flexible department and course organization based on the needs of the students and society.
2) Since the state of implementation of class evaluation by students is thought to become an important element in the evaluation of national university corporations, class contents can be enhanced and instruction can be improved based on class evaluation by students.
3) With counseling and employment support for students clearly positioned as national university corporation services, the development of departments in charge of student services can proceed and service contents can be enhanced and improved.
