(1)Revisions to "New School Lifestyle — COVID-19 Infection Control Manuals and Guidelines for Schools
Today MEXT is announcing updates to the COVID-19 Infection Control Manuals and Guidelines for Schools.
The main updates are as below.
1. Updating of COVID-19 situation and analysis pertaining to students and teachers
2. Additions to policy views on continuation of school education in regions where infections are spreading
・ Clarification that the uniform temporary closure of all schools, especially elementary and junior high schools, in a region should bascially be avoided
・ Regarding junior and senior high school students, consideration of measures, depending on the COVID situation, for temporarily restricting of high infection-risk activities where students do not wear masks   etc.
3. Addtions to countermeasures against COVID-19 during winter
・ Keeping in mind the necessity of keeping constant ventilation as much as possible even during winter and wearing warm clothing so health problems do not arise due to a drop in room temperatures
・ Introduction of "two-stage ventilation" , that is the way of ventilation not to drop the oppupied room temperature too much utilizing empty rooms   etc.
4. Additional points to remember when using mouth shields
5. Revamping of policy views regarding temporary school closures if cases of infection occur
・ Revision of measures that call for "immediate temporary school closures in the event of a COVID-19 infection"; such measures limited to cases of true necessity after consultations regarding whether to temporarily close a school or not should be held with the local health center  etc.
6. Others
・ Additional points regarding wearing of masks during physical education classes
・ Additions to caution points when having a lunch
・ Additional points regarding the wearing of masks by children in kindergarden based on views by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare    etc.

We are planning to translate the Manuals and Guidelines into English, Portuguese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog in the near future.
It would be appreciated if the Manuals and Guidelines would be utilized for the countermeasure against COVID-19.
