The progress of modern life sciences is the history of innovations in measurement and analysis technology, and still now, humankind is taking on the challenge of understanding the many “mysteries of life.” Because of that, this strategic objective focuses on the unknown biological response abilities of complex living organisms that are exhibited in response to external stimuli and the passage of time, thus challenging this frontier of the life sciences to elucidate the so-called “resilience of life.” We are promoting the development of measurement and analysis technology with a wide range of temporal and spatial scales in mind and through a cross-disciplinary approach. This is grounded in goal-oriented thinking based on life science needs in order to elucidate unanswered questions in the basic life sciences by unraveling this “resilience of life” and to contribute to the solution of social issues, such as the extending of healthy life expectancies and the realizing of a sustainable society.
