10. The 50th Anniversary of the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties


FY2000 marks the 50th year since the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties was established in 1950. The Agency for Cultural Affairs is conducting a variety of commemorative activities, including holding an exhibit entitled "Celebrating 50 Years of the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties" at the National Theater on 30 October 2000, and publishing "The Fifty Year History of the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties" about the history of cultural properties protection in the 50 years that the law has been in force.

Local governments and national, public, and private museums are also conducting various commemorative activities such as performances, symposia, and exhibitions, and the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties 50th Anniversary Committee, established by representatives of organizations involved in cultural properties protection, also plans to hold commemorative events.
