7 A Copyright System for a Changing Society
4. Future Tasks for Consideration
(3) Copyright issues related to multimedia

Along with the recent advances that have taken place in the area of digital processing technology, remarkable developments can also be seen in the field of multimedia, which combines various forms of information including image, speech, sound and computer programs, and in the ways of its utilization. In Night of the variety of possibilities for utilizing computer generated works opened up by advances in the area of multimedia, copyright issues related to multimedia need to be explored from various standpoints; while considering the need to protect the rights of the author, it is also necessary to consider provisions that will facilitate the availability of these works for use.

Towards this end, the Copyright Council established a multimedia subcommittee in June 1992, which plans to prepare a report by November1993 on the rules for copyright clearance with respect to multimedia as well as on the collective administration of rights.
